SEN Patterns

DRAFT — for legal review before launch

Terms of use

Last updated 5 October 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and SEN Patterns when you use the SEN Patterns app or website. SEN Patterns is run by [owner to confirm: legal name, company number and registered address].

How we handle your information is set out in our privacy notice.

What SEN Patterns is

  • A place to record how your child’s days go, look back on them, and find support. It is for parents and carers of autistic children, children with ADHD, and children who are waiting for an assessment.
  • It is not a medical service. SEN Patterns never diagnoses, assesses or treats, and nothing in it is medical, legal or educational advice. Decisions about your child’s health, education or care are for you and the professionals who know your child.
  • It is not an emergency service. If anyone is in danger, call 999. UK helplines are listed on the support page.
  • Notes and summaries written by AI can be wrong. Services listed under nearby support come from Google and OpenStreetMap; SEN Patterns does not check or recommend them.

Your account

  • You need to be 18 or over, and a parent or carer of each child you add, or authorised by someone with parental responsibility for them.
  • Keep your sign-in details to yourself. You are responsible for what is done with your account.
  • A carer you invite to your household shares your household’s plan, using an account of their own, and can see, add to and edit your children’s records, including what was recorded before they joined. Who you invite is up to you: invite only people who help care for your child.
  • Children do not have accounts and must not be given your sign-in.

What you put in

What you record stays yours. You allow us to store it and use it to run SEN Patterns for you, as the privacy notice describes, and for nothing else. You can download all of it, or delete it, at any time.

Plans and payment

  • The Free plan needs no card and has no time limit. Meltdown support, everyday logging at home, and downloading your data are free on every plan.
  • Family is a paid subscription, monthly or yearly. The price, and how often you pay, are shown before you confirm.

Subscribing on the website

  • Payment is taken by Stripe.
  • Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel it.
  • To cancel, go to Settings, then Your plan, then Manage or cancel. You keep Family until the end of the period you have paid for.
  • The free trial on the website lasts 14 days. It starts only when you choose, needs no card, and ends by itself. Nothing is charged. Each account can have one.

Subscribing on a phone

  • A subscription bought in the app is bought from Apple, through the App Store, or from Google, through Google Play, and paid for under their terms.
  • It renews automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the period ends.
  • Where a free trial is offered, it is the store’s introductory offer. It becomes a paid subscription when it ends unless you cancel before then.
  • Only Apple or Google can cancel it. On an iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. On Android, open Google Play, then Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Deleting the app, or your SEN Patterns account, does not cancel it.
  • Refunds for anything bought in the App Store or Google Play are handled by Apple or Google.

Refunds and cancelling after you buy

If you cancel within 14 days of your first payment for Family, we refund that payment in full: write to hello@senpatterns.com. After that, cancelling stops the next renewal, and you keep Family until the end of the period you have paid for. This does not affect your rights as a consumer.

Price changes

If the price of Family changes, we will tell you at least 30 days before the new price applies to you, so that you can cancel first if you want to. Apple and Google also tell you about a price change to a subscription bought from them, in their own way.

Half price for families on benefits

If you get Universal Credit or another means-tested benefit, Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payment, or Carer’s Allowance, you can have a year of Family at half price — £29.99 instead of £59.99. Email a photo or screenshot of a recent letter or statement to hello@senpatterns.com. We check it, delete it, and keep only the date we checked.

Once we have checked it, you have 60 days to start your half-price year, on the website or in the SEN Patterns app. It is one payment for one year, on the yearly plan only, and it does not renew by itself. We email you 30 days and 7 days before it ends. Fresh proof gives you another year, which starts when the current one ends. We may change or end this offer for new purchases, but a year already bought always runs to its end.

The feedback board

The feedback board in Settings is shared with every parent who uses SEN Patterns. Posts are shown without your name. Please do not post:

  • anything that could identify a child, or anyone else, such as a name or a school
  • contact details, links or advertising
  • anything abusive, hateful, threatening or sexual

There is no tolerance for objectionable posts or abusive behaviour on the board. Reported posts are hidden while we look at them, and posts that break these rules are removed.

Some words, links, email addresses and phone numbers are blocked automatically. Any parent can report a post. You can also hide posts from someone without them knowing.

Using SEN Patterns fairly

Please do not try to reach anyone else’s information, interfere with how SEN Patterns works, or use automated tools to collect anything from it.

Changes

  • SEN Patterns will change as we improve it. Meltdown support will stay free on every plan.
  • If we change these terms in a way that affects you, we will say so in the app before the change takes effect.

Stopping

  • You can stop using SEN Patterns whenever you like, and delete your account from inside the app.
  • We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts a child or another person at risk. We will tell you why, and let you download your information first, unless the law prevents it.

Our responsibility to you

Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer. We are responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We do not exclude our responsibility where it would be unlawful to, such as for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.
